Accademia Bizantina – Ottavio Dantone
Sonia Prina, contralto
Special praise, however, must go to the extraordinary playing of the Accademia Bizantina. Not only do they attack the rapid passages with emotional brio, but in the slow movements of the two concertos included here they play with elegance and a fine legato style that often eludes many of the historically informed groups active today. I can’t and won’t tell you this is an indispensable disc unless your appetite for Vivaldiana is insatiable, but I can say that if you want to hear some lovely and many spectacular arias sung in a way that explains their appeal even today, Sonia Prina and Accademia Bizantina will not disappoint.
