With joy and satisfaction we announce that as of summer 2024 Accademia Bizantina will be orchestra in residence at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik: an exciting new opportunity to pursue and further our exploration of the baroque repertoire.

The 48th edition will indeed see the debut of Ottavio Dantone as music director of the Innsbruck festival, under the artistic direction of Eva-Maria Sens.

The festival will be preceded on August 6 by a pre-opening concert: “Il trionfo della Fama” by Francesco Bartolomeo Conti, conducted by Maestro Dantone with Accademia Bizantina, the choirs La Stagione Armonica and NovoCanto, and soloists Benedetta Mazzucato, Sophie Rennert, NicolòBalducci, Martin Vanberg and Riccardo Novaro.

On August 7, 9 and 11, we will stage a new production of Geminiano Giacomelli’s “Cesare in Egitto” based on a libretto by Carlo Goldoni, directed by Leo Muscato and conducted by Ottavio Dantone. Cesare officially launches the festival’s opera series, and features audience favourites such as Arianna Vendittelli, Margherita Maria Sala, and Filippo Mineccia.

This edition also ushers in a new series in the Festival Weeks programme, under the title “Ottavio Plus”: a chamber music concert where Ottavio, along with friends and fellow musicians, will investigate the repertoire of ancient keyboard instruments. This year, Ottavio Dantone and long-time colleague Alessandro Tampieri, Accademia Bizantina’s concertmaster and violin soloist, will perform a programme honouring the virtuoso interplay of harpsichord and strings in 17th and 18th century music.
